Havin' A Summah

In anticipation of summer I was thinking about all of the things I hope to accomplish and decided to compile it all into a lovely little list. So here goes nothing!
  • read most of the books for my fall classes, which includes a little bit of Tennessee Williams and Gustave Flaubert
  • yoga class, relieve stress
  • celebrate my 21st birthday in style!
  • see Nicki/Britney in concert
  • Beach it up with my baby
  • save money/spend money appropriately
(This picture embodies everything I want from a beach. Unfortunately Ocean City doesn't look a thing like this... A girl can dream!)

My Heels Are Killin Me

So I have approximately ONE day left of classes. Like, on a serious note, CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH? I thought Spring 2011 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County was going to be the death of me. But, thankfully, I am still breathing and perfectly mobile. Not only am I mobile but I'm feeling so good. I really feel redeemed. Hard work really does pay off people. I learned a lot this semester. Time management is key, procrastination is so unnecessary, stress will come at you from all different angles, and comfortable shoes are never understated. Walking around campus you learn some life lessons. Seriously flats are forever.

This weekend is going to be so lemony. I'm hanging out with Michelle on Friday night, Saturday I'm going to knock out my final project for Asian American Studies, and Sunday is the Arbutus Craft Festival. Hopefully the weather forecast of rain showers doesn't rain on my parade!

And on a side note at school today I saw like 500 girls wearing flower dresses, 501 including myself. Girl you cannot find a solid print to save your life!

Get it!

Indie Biatch

A recent trip to the Columbia Mall (recent meaning like 4 hours ago) with Michelle left me wondering how come all Forever 21 dresses make white girls look like indie bitches? Seriously. Florals are everywhere, don't get me wrong I LOVE FLORALS, but it makes all relatively cute girls look like wannabee Nylon Magazine cover girls. Every dress in H&M looks reminiscent of something you would find at the local Goodwill. It's hard to escape the indieness being sold in stores these days. Remember those dresses with the elastic waist band (brought to my attention by Michelle)??? Those were the only dress choice for a while. Damn, can I get a something a little less restraining? Oh and remember the empire waist dresses (a.k.a. preg shirts)?? Those went out of style real fast. How can certain things become mass produced overnight? And so quickly? At the end of the day, floral is forever. And maybe I secretly want to be a Nylon cover girl indie bitch. And maybe I just don't know what to make of all of this. Just let me be myself.

Did I mention that I am pondering buying FLORAL DOC MARTENS. That is such an oxymoron. But nonetheless I am totally considering their relevance in my wardrobe. P.S. They are so relevant.

Rolling in the deep

Since my last post my mom walked in the Steps to the Cure fashion show and looked beautiful, my brand new car got crunched (had a bout of whip lash, doing much better now), I got a B on an essay (should have been an A), I saw Rio with Chelsea, and I painted my nails red. I'm feeling good.
I've been listening to a lot of Britney Spears lately (getting pumped for the BRITNEY/NICKI TOUR this summer!!!!). I have also become intriguingly more interested in British soul singer Adele (to your left). Not only is she beautiful but her music is so incredible. She's like the only British white girl to be classified at R&B (Dusty Springfield being the exception). Uh-Mazing. On a recent stop at Target I read part of her Rolling Stone article. She seems like a real good time. I can just see myself singing her songs at an outrageously loud volume in my car.
Deviled eggs, potato salad, asparagus, movies, and a little gift exchange is all of my plans for tomorrow and I am so thrilled. Dream Sunday. Happy Easter!

Tangled Up In Blue

Tangled is one of the best movies I have watched in a long time. I love Mandy Moore, so naturally this movie was going to be a gem. Olivia said that this movie was meant just for our family and I completely agree with her! I don't want to give anything away but... all I'm saying is my dad is clearly Flynn and my mom... well... you'll know who she is in the end!

Last night I went on a dinner/movie date with Chels. We had delicious Bertucci's then went and saw Sucker Punch, which I thought was pretty good. The make up and costumes were so cool. Totally down with that. And Jena Malone is such a rock star. Love her.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! It never seems long enough!

Even brighter than the moon

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind wanting to start again? Well, actually that is my exact feeling about UMBC. But more like I want to do so well but I never truly conquer. It's like I am so close and bam! I can't find Fall semster classes that work simultaneously with my job. That's my plastic bag. Oh well, Katy knows where I'm coming from.

Fireworks aside, I am on cloud nine about the 92% I got on my art history midterm! Killed it.
Of all of the different early paintings I have seen this semester this is one of my favorites. By Leonardo da Vinci, The Lady with an Ermine, 1489-1490. I have truly become fond of early art since taking this class. My professor is so passionate about the topics that we are discussing that it's contagious! In fact, over spring break, my teacher went to The Louvre in Paris and brought every person in my class a postcard of the Mona Lisa. Such a sweetie! Anyway, off to catch up on some reading! I hope everyone is enjoying our so-called spring! So cold today!

Envy

I am so excited for this weekend, tomorrow is going to drag like a queen. Thursday I am going out to dinner with Michelle, Cassie, and Mariel, which I am really looking forward to. Friday, I am hitting up the National Zoo with Chelsea for a day of red pandas and sloths and packed picnic lunches. Saturday is a trip to a winery for Chelsea's aunt's 30th birthday. Sunday is IHOP breakfast. So much stuff packed into four days! Gotta live!

Above is my girl Nicki Minaj, she's my favorite riot girl idol.
Womp Womp

P.S. If you're not as busy as me this weekend, download some Nicki. You will NOT regret it. "Superbass" is gonna be her next single, ya'll! Get it!

Introducing...

Zoe Clementine!

Zoe is the most recent addition to my family. She is a 9 year old pug who has been through a lot. She was at one point in time used as a breeder dog, then she was found with two golf ball size stones in her bladder (which she had removed and are in a plastic bag on our kitchen island), and she is a breast cancer survivor. All of that aside, she is the sweetest (and hungriest) little pup and a great friend to have around. I'm sure you'll see more of her!

By Request

I was looking through my folder the other day and I came across a little teeny tiny essay I wrote about three years ago. Chelsea told me I should post it on my blog, and to be honest I am a little embarrassed. However, this brought back some nice memories. I hope Michelle remembers this! Enjoy!

Listening to Rubber Soul while painting my toes red brings back a flood of memories. Just three years ago, I was a Beatles maniac. No joke. I would sit in the passenger side of the best friends maroon Altima and we would blast 1960’s music as loud as it would go and drive to various little towns around Maryland. It didn’t seem like much at the time, but I find myself being nostalgic for these afternoons. Especially when “In My Life” comes on, so sentimental.

One time in particular, Michelle (my best friend) and I were lazing about in her basement, to keep cool from a humid summer day. Two of our friends knocked on the back door and in an attempt for fun, we ran away from them and hopped into my 2000 Dodge Minivan and drove, full speed, to the airport. Baltimore Washington International had no idea what was coming. As we were cruising down route one, and made the sharp left turn onto 195, we were heading to the terminals, which would send away girlfriends from boyfriends, children off to college, and luggage in the wrong direction. I parked my car in the 15 minute parking only section, and we ran onto the elevator.

Our adrenaline pumping, we hopped on the escalator and saw our two friends drive off. We had won! We beat them! It was a pretty big deal at the time. I have two pictures of us, which we took on the escalator, that hot summer day. My bangs were sweaty, and my best friend had just shaved her head, so she looks pretty fresh in the said picture.

I sometimes think this day foreshadowed the future. Approximately three years later we went to this same airport and jet-setted across the country to a little known town called Portland.

Flower Girl

In an attempt to emulate my favorite riot girl idol I put on dark purple lipstick and the new dress I ordered off the internet and listened to "Rah Rah Replica" on repeat. I also thought Buffy Season 3 would be a nice touch to the 90's revival I have going on. If only I hadn't returned those Ghost World-esque boots I bought this past fall... oh well, they made me look like Zelda anyway.

So I tried to write an entry about my love of Justin Bieber but it was taking forever to upload a video and the html got all weird and stuff so I deleted it. But in a nutshell, Justin Bieber is so talented and yeah, maybe I did feel a pang of jealousy when I found out he and Selena Gomez are official, but I can look past his personal life and appreciate his musical talent. And not to mention his new haircut is off the chain. If you haven't listened to Biebs I strongly suggest you do. If you're feeling like delving a little deeper you might want to put your 3D glasses on and head over to the movie theater. Never Say Never 3D was the best choice I ever made. Ever.

Here's to the week picking up a quicker pace! Please note that it is only Monday.

"We excuse our sloth under the pretext of difficulty."

I have recently become completely obsessed with SLOTHS. They are just the most precious thing to me, and now that I have seen TWO real life sloths at the National Aquarium I think I can officially say that I am a sloth expert. Not only are they the most sleepy of rainforest animals, but they are the only kind of mold I will deal with! And who can say no to this face??? SERIOUSLY. I love it. I'm actually looking into moving to the rainforest just so I can spend time with these little babies.
And on that note I'm headed to Arbutus and an impromptu trip to the movie theater to see my babby.

Let's Go Surfing

So after all the snowfall I have decided to relocate west, for sure. Specifically the Pacific Northwest. Seattle. Chelsea and I have been talking about moving to the birth place of grunge rock for some time, and I am so down. Emphasis on SO. I mean Seattle just looks amazing. And I would trade snow for rain any day of the week.

My first week of classes at a real university was ruined by the snow. So I have only had one actual class. My teachers for my other classes have emailed me endless amounts of reading to do before Monday and Tuesday's classes. So this weekend I am going on a double movie date, plunging into the freezing Chesapeake Bay, staying up late on Saturday night to watch my girl Nicki Minaj on SNL, working, and reading a million pages of several different books. Great!

I hope everyone else's weekend rules!
